JUMPROPE AND HOOPS 4 HEART

During the week of  February 19, 2008, the Builders Club at our middle school is again sponsoring Hoops for Heart and Jump Rope for Heart events to raise funds for the American Heart Association. This is the 10th year for our event! The money our school raises will help fund potentially lifesaving research on heart and blood vessel diseases including stroke. These events also support the development of educational materials that teach the importance of heart health and staying fit. Our school is joining the fight against our nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers – heart disease and stroke. Last year we raised over $12,500.  We hope to raise even more this year!

These events are fun and effective ways to teach heart-healthy living. They emphasize the importance of physical activity as kids do something they enjoy – playing basketball and jumping rope. This event gives students the opportunity to perform community service as they raise funds for the American Heart Association. Our school also earns gift certificates for physical education equipment which students use during gym classes.

Information will be presented to all students during the last week in January, at which time those participating may bring home collection envelopes. We encourage everyone to take part. A student may choose to either jump rope or play basketball. Students who collect money will participate in the events during gym classes on February 19, 20 and 21, 2008. On February 22 during homeroom period there will be basketball games between the 8th grade basketball teams and staff members. Cost of admission to the games will be 25 cents, with proceeds donated to the AHA.

On the flap of the “Participant Collection Envelope” is a “Release and Indemnification Form” permitting your child to participate in the event. Your child must turn in a signed “Release and Indemnification Form” (permission slip) and the AHA envelope with money they collect to the gym teachers in order to participate in this event. THESE ARE DUE BY FEBRUARY 12, 2008.

Family and friends are welcome to support your child’s participation through contributions.  Checks should be made payable to the American Heart Association. Contributions can also be made online. Participants receive thank-you gifts based on the amount of contributions they collect.

If you have any questions about our Hoops for Heart or Jump Rope for Heart events, please call the school at 966-8290.  Thank you for your support.
